How do they work?
LoRa gateways receive the long-range signals emitted by LoRaWAN sensors, even in complex or remote environments. They translate these signals into usable data and transmit them via IP networks (Eternet, Wi-Fi, 4G, etc.) to IoT servers or management platforms.
These gateways also enable two-way communication, meaning that they not only collect data from sensors, but can also send commands to them. For example, a server can send a command to a connected valve to adjust the water flow or activate a device based on the data received. This is known as two-way communication. The LoRa network is particularly useful for this functionality.
Why choose a LoRa Gateway?
Extensive coverage
Imagine a rural municipality wishing to monitor its critical infrastructures, such as water reservoirs or pumping stations, spread over a vast territory. Thanks to a protocol capable of transmitting up to 500 messages per day over a range of 15 km in rural areas and 5 km in urban areas, the municipality can avoid having to multiply its relay antennas. Such a solution is ideal for efficiently controlling essential services, while optimizing installation and maintenance costs.
Reliable communication
With its robust signal LoRa technology is able to penetrate physical obstacles or noisy environments in terms of frequencies, where other technologies such as Wi-Fi and cellular can fail. Imagine a company wanting to connect the spaces in its underground parking lot so that users can check availability in real time. Visualize a shopping mall parking lot, where space management is often complex. With the right sensors, even in an environment where other networks perform poorly, it becomes possible to optimize space occupancy, reducing traffic jams and improving the customer experience.
Energy optimization
By centralizing sensor communicationsBy centralizing sensor communications, they reduce sensor battery consumption, enabling IoT devices to achieve autonomies of several years as they stream data.
Compatibility
A LoRa gateway supports a wide range of sensors and tools, offering great flexibility for integration in different IoT projects. Some can even work in parallel with other IoT technologies, such as NB-IoT or Wi-Fi, in the case of a hybrid solution.
How do you manage your gateways and sensors?
The IoT supervision or hypervision platform
To take full advantage of LoRa gatewaysA centralized management platform is essential. This not only enables real-time supervision of the gateway, but also configuration of connected sensors, analysis of collected data, and automation of actions.
