Located in the Occitanie region of France, Béziers and its 100,000 inhabitants are a veritable territory of innovation, particularly in the field of energy. Faced with the challenges of compartmentalizing data and solutions, the city of Béziers has set itself several strategic objectives:

Initially, each department developed its projects in isolation.
“The public lighting department, for example, had set up its own cabinet monitoring system to detect faults,” explains Vincent Milhaud, head of the infrastructure department, illustrating this siloed approach.
This fragmented approach manifested itself in various areas: unconnected air quality sensors for building services, or watering systems with no intelligence or connection to weather data.

The difficulties inherent in local authorities
In the digital transformation of local authorities, several structural challenges have been identified:

Supervision of sensors represented a major challenge for business departments: verification of deployment, monitoring of network communication, data collection…
