Smart Energy: a fast-growing sector that touches every field thanks to the IoT!
Faced with this incoherence between the power needed and the means deployed, Yoann Lamarche decided to create his own festival in 2017, to test his solution of interconnected solar power plants and generators, and the result was unquestionable! It produces 48% of the energy required for the 3 days of festivals, from renewable sources. This success has enabled the company to improve its photovoltaic solution and perfect its battery energy storage.
Mobilvolts now makes it possible to reduce the use of fossil fuels during an event, a film shoot or even on a building site. The company’s mission is to raise awareness across the entire events and audiovisual sector, by showcasing fine examples of how to reduce energy consumption and supporting them in their projects.
To provide these consumption indicators and go even further in analyzing energy consumption and exploiting the values reported, Mobilvolts has put its engineers on the case! They are working on a central measuring unit with connected sensors dedicated to measuring electricity consumption.
The company has also developed its own partnerships to connect to monitoring boxes, demonstrating the importance of oversizing. She advises organizers, producers and stage managers. For example, Mobilvolts helps them choose one type of lighting rather than another to reduce energy consumption.

Energy consumption monitoring solution implemented
For Mobilvolts, Synox teams installed sensors to monitor power consumption in amperes. This is then converted into watt-hours for direct use on their SoDATA#Viz dashboards, Synox’s data visualization platform.
Thanks to this data tracking, during an event the organization can measure and control the consumption of each electrical installation (lights, sound, catering, etc.).
After each event, the Mobilvolts R&D department draws up a detailed (or even daily) report using data from SoDATA#Viz :
“You consumed so much at such and such a time, when such and such an artist was performing, with so many amps, so many kWh…”
This makes it possible to better understand the indicators, measure ROI and impact on the environment, and above all, to size the need for energy storage for future events.
Customers benefit financially. For example, during a test with environmental and regulatory constraints in a Natura 2000 classified area, the solution saved over €12,000 in RNG (non-road diesel fuel), in just 3 and a half months.
Renting a battery pack with a photovoltaic power plant is a little more expensive than a generator at the outset, but at the end of the day, the distribution of energy and battery storage means savings of almost 50% on the energy costs of an event that would have only generators.
The result of this collaboration between Mobilvolts and Synox
Mobilvolts’ founder explains how the use of IoT quickly became an obvious choice for real-time supervision. It is important to receive instant alerts, based on customized thresholds, so that technicians can act accordingly.
With Synox, Mobilvolts has chosen SMS and email alerts. Wireless connected objects are also essential to avoid additional wiring on a site which is already complex in terms of connections, and which can sometimes be very vast and extensive…

For example, it has identified a possible improvement in the connectivity chosen: switching from the existing LoRa solution to cellular connectivity to guarantee better data feedback and the sending of alerts, particularly on certain events in specific areas.

In 2024, at a trade show, Mobilvolts will be testing an intelligent PLC in real-life conditions, capable of instantly measuring and reporting peaks in energy consumption.
After that? Mobilvolts continues to innovate!
The protagonist of decarbonized events will soon be monitoring solar radiation for orientation and inclination of solar panels, as well as battery status and performance.
